PSN Rivers Partners with Ministry of Health on Drug Safety Campaign

The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rivers State Ministry of Health to launch a comprehensive drug safety awareness campaign across the state.

Campaign Objectives:

  1. Reduce Self-Medication: Educate communities about the risks associated with taking medications without proper professional guidance
  2. Combat Fake Drugs: Raise awareness about how to identify counterfeit medications and the importance of purchasing medicines from licensed pharmacies.
  3. Promote Rational Drug Use: Encourage proper adherence to prescribed medications and understanding of potential drug interactions.
  4. Strengthen Pharmacist-Patient Relationships: Position pharmacists as accessible healthcare providers for medication-related consultations.
  5. Campaign Activities:

    The six-month campaign will include: - Radio and television public service announcements - Community outreach programs in all 23 local government areas - School health education programs - Distribution of educational materials in local languages - Social media awareness campaigns
  • Statement from Leadership:

    The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Orji, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: "This collaboration with PSN Rivers aligns with our commitment to improving healthcare outcomes in Rivers State. Pharmacists are vital members of the healthcare team, and this campaign will help our residents make better decisions about their medications." PSN Rivers Chairman, Pharm. Lekia Princewill, MAW, added: "We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Health on this important initiative. Medication safety is a public health priority, and pharmacists are well-positioned to lead this conversation." The campaign launches in February 2025 with a public ceremony at the Government House, Port Harcourt.
